JOHN DAVIES (MICM) - Principal Lecturer & Trainer

John has been involved in personal safety training for over 25 years, & is a qualified instructor. For the last 15 years John has run regular self-defence classes for various groups, and nearly ten years ago, saw a real need for courses in defusing & de-escalating situations & a simple style of self-defence and breakaway techniques, for people working with potentially violent and explosive natures.
Served in the Armed Forces and during his service, became interested in personal safety training.
Over the years, John has been involved in teaching people from all types of professions in the area of personal safety, BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED was formed with people of a like mind, with experience in personal safety training.
Having worked for 9 years on a psychiatric ward, John has had first hand knowledge of dealing with confrontational situations. After leaving the health service, John was the instigator for setting up BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED.
John was also one of the founder members of the Institute of Conflict Management (ICM) the recognised steering group for the development of National Occupational Standards for employees facing aggression & violence.

PHILLIP GREEN (MICM) (REG) Cert. Ed. RGN: Trainer.

Is a State Registered Nurse who has recently decided to pursue a career in training. Has worked for BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED part time over the past eight years, and has now decided to pursue training as a full time career.
He has been successfully involved in Nurse Management, Education & Research in a variety of clinical settings within the NHS & within hospitals abroad in South Africa & The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Apart from the nursing Phil also has a vast amount of experience in the field of Personal Safety Training over the last 20 years, and feels that apart from the personal safety aspect, he has a lot to offer in the field of training that BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED are involved in.
He has studied for and passed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (Cert Ed.)
Phillip is a major asset to this company.

SARAH DAVIES (MICM) (Dip COT): Senior Trainer

Sarah is a qualified Senior 1 Occupational Therapist, who has worked with a variety of clients, ranging from dementia, mental illness, & stroke patients. As an occupational therapist she has run many stress management & assertiveness courses for staff, management, & people suffering with mental illness.
She has been involved in personal safety training for ten years, & in that time has been involved in teaching self-defence to women. She is a valuable asset to the team as she offers the female perspective to training & techniques.

IAN GWYNNE-JAGO MICM B.Sc. (Hons) Psychology

Ian is a qualified psychologist having worked in a special school as a behaviour therapist working with adolescents with challenging behaviour for six years after coming out of the military. Then he went on to manage a unit for juvenile paedophile offenders for two years. Moved to Plymouth and worked for three years in a local company dealing with adults with challenging behaviours within the autistic spectrum. Then was a managing director of a company providing community support for elderly, homeless, drug abusers, alcoholics, ex-offenders, and rehab for acquired brain injuries for seven years. Also does voluntary work with probation service escorting offenders on expeditions on Dartmoor. During these years Ian recognised the potential for violence from not only clients, but also relatives, and in 2007 contacted BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED to undertake a train the trainer’s course in dealing with violence and aggression. Upon successfully completing the course decided to work alongside BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED. 2008 we approached Ian to join the company as we see the skills and commitment that he has as being a real asset to the company. Ian is the representative of BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED for the South West of the country.

DAVID COTTENDEN (MICM): Trainer.

He has recently joined the company to deliver training in Stress Management, Time Management, & Continuous Improvement. David worked for Bosch for 12 years and was trained as a facilitator to lead a team working on continuous improvement projects and also trained to audit to ISO 9000, which he is using to bring this company up to receiving the ISO 9000. He has delivered courses in time management and will be responsible for the delivery of stress management courses, as well as delivering courses around dealing with violence & aggression. He spent 9 years in the Armed Forces.

He has recently successfully completed the 7302 City & Guilds delivering education, 1886 City & Guilds Level 3 Deliverers of Conflict Management Training and the 1884 City & Guilds Certificate in Conflict Management

DALE WOOD (MICM): Trainer.

Dale is the newest member to join the team. He comes from a background of working as an associate Pastor in a large church for the last ten years.

Over a twenty year period Dale has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching and training people from many different backgrounds on an individual and corporate level life principles and skills that improve and enhance a person’s quality of life.

Dale has a real heart for people and a passion and enthusiasm to see people empowered to reach their full potential in the workplace. Dale is growing in his role as a trainer and is eager to learn and gain as much experience as he can.

PAUL GRONOW (MICM): Trainer.

The youngest member of the team, Paul however has had a vast amount of experience in dealing with customer service whilst working for Curry’s. He has as attended many customer care & aggression / conflict management training courses, whilst in his previous employment. He has always wanted to work in a training role, so when the opportunity arouse to join Basis Training, he took it.

Paul has fitted in well with the team & is always eager to learn and is currently working towards City & Guilds 7302 Delivering Education Certificate which then entitles him to go on to City & Guilds 1886 Level 3 Deliverers of Conflict Management Training accreditation.

BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED has a database of external trainers all of whom have completed the BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED accredited train the trainer courses. These trainers are available as support trainers as the when they are required.

They deliver the same high standard of professional training as the core group and are members of the ICM and abide by there and BASIS TRAINING (UK) LIMITED Code of Conduct.
