This unit has 4 learning outcomes:
- Be able to assess the learning environment and learners to identify and reduce the risk of injury prior to and during training courses
- Be able to understand and manage a safe learning environment and maintain the appropirate dynamics for the delivery of training courses
- Be able to demonstrate, instruct and coach learners in physical skills practice in an appropriate learning environment
- Be able to assess learners ability in the application of physical skills using various methods
The train the trainer course in Physical Interventions has been developed through the Institute of Conflict Management (ICM). The ICM is the UK's leading body for the development and setting of standards for the prevention and management of work related violence.
The programme has been developed to provide the core competencies , learning materials and assessment criteria for qualified trainers to use in the delivery of physical skills training programmes. All the physical skills taught have been registered and recorded in the ICM National Physical Skills Register and have been fully risk assessed, in line with recognised best practice.
All physical skills training should ONLY be delivered as part of an overall training strategy for preventing and managing work related violence and challenging behaviours. The programme therefore includes:
- Understanding the causes and functions of violent and challenging behaviour.
- Legislation and regulatory guidance.
- Non-physical stratergies for managing violent and challenging behaviour.
- Conflict management, resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Post incident management and support.
