In 2018, there were 694,000 reported cases of violence at work. Sadly, this number is rising every year. What The Law Says

There are several pieces of legislation which protect personal safety in the workplace;

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 – Sets out how to protect health, safety and wellbeing
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 – Requires sufficient risk assessments
  • Protection from Harassment Act 1997 – Criminal offence to cause a person to fear violence, distress or alarm.
  • RIDDOR – Reporting of incidents that lead to illnesses, injuries or death.
  • Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 – liabilities if a safety breach results in death.
